Michigan Tech to Launch Varsity Esports in Fall of 2020

A college in Northern Michigan will soon become the first public university in the state to have a varsity level esports team.

Michigan tech plans to launch its varsity esports program by the fall of 2020.

Esports are organized, multiplayer online video game competitions.

They have become popular for people to both watch and play.

Professional level competitions can be seen on major broadcast networks and sports channels like ESPN.

The school is looking to bring in a program director and plans to turn to racquetball courts into a gaming arena.

The program will be affiliated with the National Association of Collegiate Esports.

The NACE is made up of more than 130 colleges and offers more than $15-million worth of scholarships and financial aid.
