Future Huawei smartphones will not be able to download apps from the Play Store
Google has confirmed the next Huawei smartphone will not have Google apps due to the US government ban on sales to the Chinese vendor.
Future smartphone releases from Huawei will also not be able to download apps from the Play Store, restricting access to popular apps.
The US government restricted sales to Huawei in May for 90 days citing the firm is a threat to national security, Huawei rejects this.
President Donald Trump greenlit another 90 days on August 21, stating American firms can continue selling to Huawei after being granted a special licence.
According to Reuters, the US government received 130 requests for a licence but is yet to grant a single one.
The Android operating system is open-source software meaning any company can use it freely. But permission is needed from Google for its apps. Huawei has developed its own operating system called HarmonyOS which gives the vendor another option.
