Two weeks ago five-star combo guard Nimari Burnett announced his top five schools: Alabama, Louisville, Oregon, Michigan, and Texas Tech. The senior grew up in Chicago but now attends Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif.
Burnett (6-3, 190 pounds) will visit Texas Tech the weekend of October 19, as first reported by Evan Daniels of 247 Sports. The visit to Lubbock will be the final of his five official visits and will take place the same weekend Texas Tech football hosts Iowa State.
Texas Tech burst onto the scene with Burnett in early August when the Red Raiders hired Ulric Maligi as an assistant coach. Maligi has deep ties to Chicago and Burnett said his recruiting, in addition to Zhaire Smith and Jarrett Culver’s success at Tech, contributed to his decision to make the Red Raiders a finalist.
On the court Burnett excels as a scorer at multiple levels by knowing how to use his body to get to the lane while balancing that with a smooth shooting stroke. Burnett is a better athlete than he looks at first glance, but needs to further develop his body in order to make it to the NBA.
A consensus top 25 prospect in the 2020 class, Burnett doesn’t expect to make his decision until some time in January, possibly early February.
